A guide to working loss, grief and adjustment

Aim

To support staff managing the changing environment both within the workplace and at home.  It will strengthen or remind participants of their abilities to cope with the uncontrollable nature of change and its impact on their emotional and behavioral response.

Overview

The Challenge of Change Workshop looks at the day-to-day effectiveness of our professional roles and how we need tools to adapt to the ever-changing environments within our workforce, family and community. The workshop will look at the importance of our physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual flexibility.  It will identify that change is a part of all of our processes through life, incorporating loss, grief and adjustment.

Learning Intentions

  • Responsibilities of professionals and self-care.
  • The practice of self-reflection and self-awareness when working with people.
  • Indicators to look at developing strategies around change and adjustment.
  • Your role in a change process.
  • The dynamics of the change process within organisations, family and communities.
  • Raising the awareness that with change there is loss, grief and adjustment.

Facilitator Profile

Jacqueline (Jackie) Moore, BSW (Massey), Post Grad Dip Mgmt (UC), MBA (UC) # Registered Social Worker

Jackie has been an active member of the mental health and addiction sector since 2001.  And held the co-chair role at Navigate Waitaha (Canterbury Mental Health and Addiction NGO Leadership Group) for four years.  Her experience across a range of roles and organisations provides insight into mental health service delivery, strategic health direction and organisational development.

Most recently Jackie has been involved in supporting the sector in its response to the aftermath of the Canterbury Earthquakes and the 15th March Terrorist event.
