Aim

This workshop focuses on the well-being of the leader/manager so that they are in a position to support their staff. Providing tools and resources for leaders to manage stress and mental health in the workplace whilst supporting staff. It will provide resilience strategies to bring out the best thinking and relationship skills to respond to the challenges encountered recently, whilst keeping well.

Overview

  • Understand trauma in the context of your professional practice and personal boundaries
  • Learn how acknowledging trauma and using Trauma Informed Practice can provide effective support
  • Understand the nature of vicarious trauma, grief, loss, change and adjustment
  • Recognise the signs of compassion fatigue and burn-out in yourself and others
  • Discover tools and resources to use when identifying burn-out in yourself
  • Keeping yourself well and safe and understanding the importance of Mindful Practice
  • Learn how to be empathetic and compassionate without taking on the experience

Learning Intentions

Participants will be provided with an opportunity to:

  • Understand Trauma-Informed Theory
  • Introduction to Bessel Van Der Kolk ‘The Body Keeps the Score
  • Introduction to vicarious trauma and Trauma Stewardship
  • Use resilience and other tools to support those people who have experienced trauma
  • The principles of Trauma Informed Practice

Facilitator Profile

Jackie Moore Social Work Reg: 12584; BSW (Massey); Post Grad Dip Mgmt (UC); MBA (UC)
With a degree in Social Work, Jackie has been an active member of the mental health and addiction sector since 2001 and held the co- chair role at Navigate Waitaha (Canterbury Mental Health and Addiction NGO Leadership Group, Christchurch NZ) for four years. Her experience across a range of roles and organisations provides insight into mental health service delivery, strategic health direction and organisational development.
